Morphological characteristics: The aculeus has a body length of 2.5-3.5mm. It resembles Sitophilus granarius but is brown in colour with four pale yellowish spots, two on each shell. It has membranous wings and flies. The larva, 3-4 mm. long, is stubby, obovate, keeled and yellowish in colour with slight differences from Sitophilus granarius. In warm climates it can exceed 4 generations per year. It can withstand low winter temperatures longer than Sitophilus granarius
Biological cycle: because it flies, it can infect seeds from the field and end up in the stores with the product. It lays up to 400 eggs.
Infestation: Infests rice and cereal grains. Less commonly, flour products, cottonseed, legumes, nuts, feed, etc.
