Oryzaephilus surinamensis, the serrated seed beetle
Morphological characteristics: The aculeus has a body length of 3mm. The thorax has 2 longitudinal grooves and 6 serrated projections on the sides of the thorax. The larva, 3.5-4mm long, is pale yellow with a head and 3 pairs of pectoral legs.
Biological cycle: has 2-3 successive generations and in warm stores can complete 6-8. The larvae prefer already infested seeds and complete their destruction. The larva is long-lived (2-3 years) and feeds on larval food remains. Infestation: It attacks cereal grains, food items (bread, pasta, biscuits, nuts), oilseeds, dried legumes, cocoa, coffee, dried plants, always together with other insects harmful to them.
