Musca domestica (house fly) is represented in Europe by twelve species. In Greece, we find the species Musca autumnalis, Musca larvipara, Musca osiris, Musca tempestiva; in the Cyclades and the Dodecanese the species Musca crassirostris and in Cyprus the species Musca sorbens, but not endemic. It can reproduce with great ease, both because of its ability to lay eggs inside any biological material that decomposes and because of the speed with which the larvae develop and become nymphs, able to reproduce, on average in 10 days. Its life span, under excellent nutritional and environmental conditions, is 15-31 days.
